Department of Mental Health Nursing

Objectives of the Department
The Department of Mental Health Nursing aims to:
- Develop knowledge of mental health concepts, psychiatric disorders, and their management.
- Enhance skills in therapeutic communication, counseling, and patient care. Promote mental health awareness and prevention of mental illness.

Departmental Activities
- 1. The department observes important days such as World Mental Health Day, International Day Against Drug Abuse, and Suicide Prevention Day through awareness programs, campaigns, and educational sessions.
- 2. As part of their clinical training, students are posted at Government Medical College Hospital, Namakkal and Manoraksha Mental Health Centre, Gajalnayakkanpatti, which provide extensive exposure to diverse mental health conditions and treatment modalities.
- 3. The department conducts mental health awareness programs in the community focusing on stress management, prevention of substance abuse, early identification of mental illness, and reduction of stigma.
