Department of Community Health Nursing
The Department of Community Health Nursing focuses on promoting, maintaining, and restoring the health of individuals, families, and communities. It emphasizes preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative care delivered at the community level.
The department prepares students to work effectively in rural and urban community settings, addressing public health issues such as communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, environmental sanitation, and national health programs. It integrates classroom learning with field experience to develop practical skills in community assessment and health planning.
Students are trained to provide family-centered care, health education, and community-based interventions, enabling them to contribute to improving the overall health status of the population.
Objectives of the Department
The Department of Community Health Nursing aims to:
- Develop knowledge of public health principles, national health programs, and community health issues.
- Enhance skills in community assessment, planning, and implementation of health services. Promote preventive and promotive healthcare practices among individuals and communities.
- Develop competencies in maternal, child health, and family welfare services. Foster leadership, communication, and teamwork skills in community health settings.
- Conduct survey and research activities under UBA scheme.
Departmental Activities
- 1. The department observes important health days such as World Health Day, World Population Day, World Immunization Week, and World AIDS Day through awareness campaigns, rallies, and health education programs.
- 2. Students are posted in Prinamry Health Centre, Rasipuram rural and Prinamry Health Centre, Vinaitheerthapuram urban health centers, where they conduct home visits, community surveys, immunization programs, school health services, and participate in national health programmes.
- 3. The department organizes health camps and awareness programs focusing on sanitation, nutrition, disease prevention, maternal and child health, and lifestyle modification to improve community well-being.
